Book 4

When I was six or seven years old, I’d pretend to write stories using beautiful cursive letters. Really all that shown on my papers were squiggly lines, but I knew what they said!

One of my university professors said of my writing, “You’re a blossoming flower.” He was disappointed when I took a class he believed to be beneath my skill level.

I never took my writing seriously until I made the decision to learn how to publish a book. Before that, I had essays and short stories published in Fine Lines Literary Journal, and various places online. I even won a flash fiction contest (the only one I ever entered.)

I’ve always been a writer, but in the past it came easily to me, so I didn’t work hard to improve. Now, I do.

I’m a curious person who enjoys a challenge, but I become bored with repetition. When I write, I need to challenge myself every step of the way.

This meant learning the how of publishing traditionally and as an indie. I love being an indie author because I have control over the process.

I’ve been an entrepreneur for a long time, so I understand the importance of hiring the right people for the right job. Cover design isn’t my thing. Editing is best left for people who enjoy that sort of torture. Me, I just want to tell you a story.

Okay, maybe not a dynasty, but I do love helping other people achieve or exceed their goals. Back Porch Writer Press is my imprint and at some point, in the distant future, it just might include other writers.

But what kind of writers? I’m not sure, yet. I’ve met talented writers from all over the world through my interviews on the Back Porch Writer podcast.

At the moment, the ones who intrigue me most are the young people who bravely make their voices heard through their writing. I love that!

Back Porch Writer Press is in its infancy and needs time to grow before working with others, but that time will come.
