Who’s your BFF? Is it the same person it was when you were in grade school? How about middle school, junior high, or high school?
Katrina and Dez go way back. Not grade school back, but close. On a rainy afternoon, Dez was training at her family’s dojang, when a scrawny girl, with stringy blonde hair and glasses, rushed into the gym. She was breathing hard. Water soaked her clothes. Dez noticed a few girls standing outside the dojang eyeballing Katrina through the window. Dez walked over, introduced herself, and handed Katrina a towel. She invited her to sit down, and then walked outside. As Dez opened the door, the girls backed away. Her gaze fell on a curly-haired brunette. Dez recognized her from school. She and her buddies had a habit of treating new kids badly.
“Do you need something?” Dez asked.
“Nah, we’re just checking things out.”
“Uh, huh. Why don’t you come inside? I’m sure I can show you a thing or two.”
“We’re good. Thanks, D.”
Dez turned to go back into the gym, then looked over her shoulder, and said, “Don’t call me D.”
“Sure thing, Dez.”
When Dez returned inside, her father was showing Katrina how to throw an opponent to the ground. The smile on Katrina’s face said what she couldn’t. Those girls weren’t going to bother her, again.

From that day, Dez and Katrina became inseparable. They trained together, competed with and against each other, and supported each other.
That’s what BFFs do. Right?
But, what happens when your BFF makes a change — one you didn’t see coming?
