Welcome to The Good Life!

When my Great Aunt Violet died, and left me her house, I knew it was time to return to Omaha. I left years ago to pursue a career in private investigation. What I learned along the way is it doesn’t matter what city I live in, it’s all the same shit, just a slightly different place. So, a free house in a growing city, sounded pretty damn good.

Here are my top ten favorite places in Omaha. If you ever find yourself in my neck of the woods, you should check them out.

  • The Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo – Be sure to stop by King Kong Burger and Zestos. You’ll be glad you did.
  • The Benson Business District – Clubs, great food, and art. Need I say more, really?
  • Midtown – Who doesn’t like a theater where you can order an actual meal? There’s also a few local eateries specializing in local food. Stay at Element Hotel. It’s eco-friendly and ultra modern.
  • South 24th Street – Great businesses and places to grab a bite to eat if you like Mexican or Thai food.
  • North 24th Street – Love’s Jazz & Art Center
  • Zio’s Pizzeria 78th & Dodge
  • The Surfside Club
  • The Alpine Inn – You get to be in nature without being in nature. Picture windows let you watch raccoons and cats take turns scavenging leftovers from the restaurant.
  • 11 Worth Cafe – I love a good diner and this is one of the best.
  • Brazen Head Irish Pub – When you need a Guinness and a boxty, go here.

That’s it. I gotta jet! I’ve been helping a UNO student with a cold case she’s been researching for a class. Since I’m in between jobs, I figured a little pro-bono work would get me karma points. I need a lot of that.
