I don’t know if you have any older brothers, but I do. When we were kids, we’d get into it a bit. One of them used to grab me by the front of my head and keep me an arm’s length away. I’d swing and kick, but never reach him.  It always pissed me off. Then my dad finally taught me a few hair grab escapes.

Check out this video.

I like that this guy teaches it from a few angles. Now, go find someone to practice on — I mean, with.

Remember that no technique is perfect. Learn as many as you can. Practice them. They have to become an automatic response. And, keep this in mind when you practice – work with a variety of people. Most of the time, a woman is attacked by a man larger than herself, but that’s not always true.

Be smart.

Note: As with every technique I post, 1) you need to practice with a willing adult participant, 2) I don’t endorse any of the sites or teachers, and 3) you need to be aware of and know the self-defense laws in your state. The purpose of these posts is to provide you with information about techniques I would use in certain situations. If you really want to become an expert in self-defense, then you need to find a dojang or dojo. If you have questions about how to identify a good dojang or dojo, post your questions in the comments.
